This series of floral painting was inspired by our wedding in South Africa, 2017. I have yet to see South Africa in Summer, but being able to see fresh proteas in my in-laws' back yard (even if it's winter) is still way better than buying a soon-to-die single protea for $100 from a Korean florist.
Our wedding, very obviously, was decorated (and blessed) with beautiful South African flowers and greens, and it gave my desire to dabble more into floral painting a big boost. After returning to Korea, I started learning more about proteas and looked for references online.
Just like how painting jewelry helped me better understand the layering technique of watercolor, studying and painting these beautiful proteas helped me over come the fear of "I suck at floral painting". Some of them later turned into art prints and printed products (as seen at the end of this page).
The Safari Sunset is later turned into a note book design as seen below. Some of the painting are also available as phone cases and art prints now.
